While it looked good on posters on the wall, living with it wasn’t as easy. The first iteration suffered some issues, majority of which were fixed in 1991, when the updated 512TR was introduced. Starting with the engine, Ferrari revised some of the components of the flat twelve to increase reliability. Larger pistons, better compression ratio, modified head gaskets to allow better cooling (a big problem from the first Testarossa), a redesign of the intake manifolds, a revised engine management system, and more. Not only did it have more power, but it was lighter too. The 512 shed 88 lbs from the former, and boasted a lower center of gravity, larger brakes, and better suspension. The interior was revised as well, creating a less awkward driving position, and allowing a more friendly cabin to larger/taller individuals. All in all, it became a reliable, and usable supercar putting out 421 horsepower and a top speed of 195 mph. The 1994 model saw the most updates, and was the only model to include ABS. The European examples also had no emissions equipment and are said to put out 428bhp.
